All Palin Bookreaders Receive an Incomplete

The false outrage has taken its toll. The intellectual midgets have spoken loudly, and incoherently... But after the laughter dies down, try to imagine the unimaginable: Sarah Palin as commander-in-chief.
With fools like these, who needs an uninformed American electorate?
You have been warned.

On The Sunny Side

Not all "serious" happens to politicians, parents and educators... Or even humans, matter of factly... Try and see life through the eyes of a pet or animal. "Defeating the opposition" takes on new meaning in this blog.

America's Post Traumatic Bush Disorder

Iraq is a little bit under the weather. Afghanistan's not looking too good itself...
The administration of these two far away wars has brought both moral and immoral consequences to the doorsteps of all Americans. We are all participants in these wars with or without our consent thanks to the "conservative" policies George W. Bush... You get what you pay for, but two wars for the price of 10 is really no bargain!
Americans are on edge about everything these days... The economy has been shattered as a result of these two wars costing U.S. taxpayers billions. At this writing the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 is $931,106,500,000 and counting... Iraq has cost $700,000,000,000 alone! http://costofwar.com/
That's just the money aspect of Bush's conflict. The money can be recovered, but lives are needlessly and tragically lost forever. The devastated families and broken hearts can never be mended back to original form. How did we allow this to happen? You have to ask the serious question, "Did Bush finally get even with Bin Laden, or did his warmongering only divide an already fragile and sick society more interested in having plenty for themselves than justice for each other?"
America is in social shock. We are all suffering a form of Post Traumatic Bush Disorder. The moral fibers of the nation are stretched to their limits it seems. But as confused as many are about what is right and what is wrong in America, to continue these conflicts, brought on by multi-governmental greed and extremism, is repugnant to anything that resembles civility.
President Obama must put an end to these tragic wars, and restore confidence to his office. As long as these wars continue, there will be no economic recovery in America. This nation will reap discontent and self-destruction if its citizens continue lobbying for tax cuts and executive bonuses as its leaders continue to administer death and destruction on foreign soil...
President Obama's success hinges on his ending these conflicts quickly. In this matter, Obama is the soul of our nation. Pray that he takes that Nobel Peace Prize to heart... and soul.

The Fox News Unbalancing Act

If you get your news from Fox, President Obama has a message for you: Fox News is not news. For those who wonder why the President did us all the favor by pointing that fact out, then the attached video clip should make it all plain.
Count the number of blatant lies you hear coming from Fox News, then thank the President for pointing you in the right direction...

Limbaugh Sacked In A Mad Rush

Rush Limbaugh's attempt to buy into the National Football League was sacked earlier today, never getting past the line of scrimmage. The fearsome foursome of NFL Players Association President DeMaurice Smith, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the Rev. Al Sharpton so overwhelmed the offensive team of Limbaugh and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts, that Checketts decided to drop the idea...
Controversy ended?
If you are apathetic to the idea of Limbaugh owning a franchise that employs mostly black athletes, and think that it does not really matter in the larger scheme of things, then quench your apathy in full by viewing these videos...

By Their Fruits You Will Know Them

President Jimmy Carter is a politician you can trust, and he certainly knows racism when he sees it. Who doesn't? The most potent part of his statement on modern racism in America is that it is old hat!

Likewise, all concerned Americans have a right and an obligation to question the motives of the Joe Wilsons and Rush Limbaughs and "Birthers" who openly question President Obama's patriotic legitimacy... The same way former Los Angeles Dodger executive Al Campanis was called out for openely and wrongly questioning the "mental necessities" blacks possessed, or lacked, in qualifying for executive positions within Major League Baseball...
Campanis lost his job as a white baseball executive after loudly expressing such Jim Crow thinking back in the 1980's. But Republicans of 2010 seem to think they should not be questioned for embracing white "Real Americans" who have outlandishly expressed their beliefs about President Obama's heritage, while holding signs and posters depicting him as an African witch doctor and a monkey...
These "Americans" insult all of African-America, as well as the whole nation by falsely trying to pass off their racism as "concerned real Americans" who want "their" country back... This smacks of nothing less than pure racist hatred in its most blatant and unsophisticated form...
Coupled with the fact that only white Americans participate in these low-life demonstrations, the Republican side of Congress seems to be nothing more than a Whites Only Club with Shelby Steele as their doorman...
Black Americans are being asked by Republicans to ignore the long history of racism in America, and agree with them that Obama is a bad man; a terrorist Kenyan who cannot produce a birth certificate... We should not oblige them.
These code words and phrases are derivatives of past government policies that led to redlining blacks out of white neighborhoods, and keeping black children out of white schools across the nation. Past policies that Republicans widely supported and embraced as did the late Strom Thurmond who secretly fathered black children in the segregated South, and who also groomed Joe Wilson's politics of today.
Of course, when you hold a mirror up to the Strom Thurmonds and Joe Wilsons of America, they will call you names and advise their support groups to strap on guns in protest. They will deny their own racist reflections of the past and present...
Watch and see how these racists go after President Carter as they do President Obama... That type of behavior is meant to convince you and the media that they are equal opportunity bigots...
"Real, rotten American fruit..."

President Obama Addresses America's Students

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary
___________________________________________________________________________
For Immediate Release September 8, 2009

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT
IN A NATIONAL ADDRESS TO AMERICA'S SCHOOLCHILDREN

Wakefield High School
Arlington, Virginia

12:06 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Hello, everybody! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, everybody. All right, everybody go ahead and have a seat. How is everybody doing today? (Applause.) How about Tim Spicer? (Applause.) I am here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we've got students tuning in from all across America, from kindergarten through 12th grade. And I am just so glad that all could join us today. And I want to thank Wakefield for being such an outstanding host. Give yourselves a big round of applause. (Applause.)

I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it's your first day in a new school, so it's understandable if you're a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now -- (applause) -- with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer and you could've stayed in bed just a little bit longer this morning.

I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived overseas. I lived in Indonesia for a few years. And my mother, she didn't have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school, but she thought it was important for me to keep up with an American education. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday. But because she had to go to work, the only time she could do it was at 4:30 in the morning.

Now, as you might imagine, I wasn't too happy about getting up that early. And a lot of times, I'd fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I'd complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and she'd say, "This is no picnic for me either, buster." (Laughter.)

So I know that some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I'm here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I'm here because I want to talk with you about your education and what's expected of all of you in this new school year.

Now, I've given a lot of speeches about education. And I've talked about responsibility a lot.

I've talked about teachers' responsibility for inspiring students and pushing you to learn.

I've talked about your parents' responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and you get your homework done, and don't spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with the Xbox.

I've talked a lot about your government's responsibility for setting high standards, and supporting teachers and principals, and turning around schools that aren't working, where students aren't getting the opportunities that they deserve.

But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, the best schools in the world -- and none of it will make a difference, none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities, unless you show up to those schools, unless you pay attention to those teachers, unless you listen to your parents and grandparents and other adults and put in the hard work it takes to succeed. That's what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education.

I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself. Every single one of you has something that you're good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That's the opportunity an education can provide.

Maybe you could be a great writer -- maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper -- but you might not know it until you write that English paper -- that English class paper that's assigned to you. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor -- maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or the new medicine or vaccine -- but you might not know it until you do your project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a senator or a Supreme Court justice -- but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.

And no matter what you want to do with your life, I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You're going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You cannot drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You've got to train for it and work for it and learn for it.

And this isn't just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. The future of America depends on you. What you're learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.

You'll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You'll need the insights and critical-thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You'll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy.

We need every single one of you to develop your talents and your skills and your intellect so you can help us old folks solve our most difficult problems. If you don't do that -- if you quit on school -- you're not just quitting on yourself, you're quitting on your country.

Now, I know it's not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork.

I get it. I know what it's like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mom who had to work and who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn't always able to give us the things that other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and I felt like I didn't fit in.

So I wasn't always as focused as I should have been on school, and I did some things I'm not proud of, and I got in more trouble than I should have. And my life could have easily taken a turn for the worse.

But I was -- I was lucky. I got a lot of second chances, and I had the opportunity to go to college and law school and follow my dreams. My wife, our First Lady Michelle Obama, she has a similar story. Neither of her parents had gone to college, and they didn't have a lot of money. But they worked hard, and she worked hard, so that she could go to the best schools in this country.

Some of you might not have those advantages. Maybe you don't have adults in your life who give you the support that you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their job and there's not enough money to go around. Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don't feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren't right.

But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life -- what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you've got going on at home -- none of that is an excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude in school. That's no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. There is no excuse for not trying.

Where you are right now doesn't have to determine where you'll end up. No one's written your destiny for you, because here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.

That's what young people like you are doing every day, all across America.

Young people like Jazmin Perez, from Roma, Texas. Jazmin didn't speak English when she first started school. Neither of her parents had gone to college. But she worked hard, earned good grades, and got a scholarship to Brown University -- is now in graduate school, studying public health, on her way to becoming Dr. Jazmin Perez.

I'm thinking about Andoni Schultz, from Los Altos, California, who's fought brain cancer since he was three. He's had to endure all sorts of treatments and surgeries, one of which affected his memory, so it took him much longer -- hundreds of extra hours -- to do his schoolwork. But he never fell behind. He's headed to college this fall.

And then there's Shantell Steve, from my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Even when bouncing from foster home to foster home in the toughest neighborhoods in the city, she managed to get a job at a local health care center, start a program to keep young people out of gangs, and she's on track to graduate high school with honors and go on to college.

And Jazmin, Andoni, and Shantell aren't any different from any of you. They face challenges in their lives just like you do. In some cases they've got it a lot worse off than many of you. But they refused to give up. They chose to take responsibility for their lives, for their education, and set goals for themselves. And I expect all of you to do the same.

That's why today I'm calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education -- and do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending some time each day reading a book. Maybe you'll decide to get involved in an extracurricular activity, or volunteer in your community. Maybe you'll decide to stand up for kids who are being teased or bullied because of who they are or how they look, because you believe, like I do, that all young people deserve a safe environment to study and learn. Maybe you'll decide to take better care of yourself so you can be more ready to learn. And along those lines, by the way, I hope all of you are washing your hands a lot, and that you stay home from school when you don't feel well, so we can keep people from getting the flu this fall and winter.

But whatever you resolve to do, I want you to commit to it. I want you to really work at it.

I know that sometimes you get that sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work -- that your ticket to success is through rapping or basketball or being a reality TV star. Chances are you're not going to be any of those things.

The truth is, being successful is hard. You won't love every subject that you study. You won't click with every teacher that you have. Not every homework assignment will seem completely relevant to your life right at this minute. And you won't necessarily succeed at everything the first time you try.

That's okay. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who've had the most failures. J.K. Rowling's -- who wrote Harry Potter -- her first Harry Potter book was rejected 12 times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. He lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, "I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that's why I succeed."

These people succeeded because they understood that you can't let your failures define you -- you have to let your failures teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently the next time. So if you get into trouble, that doesn't mean you're a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to act right. If you get a bad grade, that doesn't mean you're stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying.

No one's born being good at all things. You become good at things through hard work. You're not a varsity athlete the first time you play a new sport. You don't hit every note the first time you sing a song. You've got to practice. The same principle applies to your schoolwork. You might have to do a math problem a few times before you get it right. You might have to read something a few times before you understand it. You definitely have to do a few drafts of a paper before it's good enough to hand in.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength because it shows you have the courage to admit when you don't know something, and that then allows you to learn something new. So find an adult that you trust -- a parent, a grandparent or teacher, a coach or a counselor -- and ask them to help you stay on track to meet your goals.

And even when you're struggling, even when you're discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you, don't ever give up on yourself, because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.

The story of America isn't about people who quit when things got tough. It's about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best.

It's the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and they founded this nation. Young people. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon. Students who sat where you sit 20 years ago who founded Google and Twitter and Facebook and changed the way we communicate with each other.

So today, I want to ask all of you, what's your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a President who comes here in 20 or 50 or 100 years say about what all of you did for this country?

Now, your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I'm working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books and the equipment and the computers you need to learn. But you've got to do your part, too. So I expect all of you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don't let us down. Don't let your family down or your country down. Most of all, don't let yourself down. Make us all proud.

Thank you very much, everybody. God bless you. God bless America. Thank you. (Applause.)

Flat Out Stupid

When Americans start debating publicly whether it is right or wrong for the President of the United States to tell American students, in a nationwide broadcast, the importance of studying hard and doing their best in school, then the entire nation is at serious risk of becoming nothing less than a team of fools...
This one American black man, Barrack Obama, has stirred up much fear and hatred in millions of white conservative "Christian" based Americans who refuse to accept the fact that he is their President. In their jaded and sick narrative, they have lodged accusations against Obama ranging from America hater to terrorist enabler, anti-Christian to Muslim, intemperate American to illegal alien from Kenya...
They say Obama wants to establish "death panels," and "pull the plug" on seniors. Now he is accused of being a Nazi with the leadership style of Hitler, and the broadcast agenda of Joseph Goebbels. Who really believes that?
How sick... How racist... How unintelligent.
Putting it all in an educational perspective, parents and teachers need all the help we can get in helping students excel. It was George W. Bush who was inside Florida's Emma E. Booker Elementary School classroom at the exact time we suffered the 9/11 attacks. He was there to encourage students to do well in school...
George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan both delivered special messages to American students through American media. Those former students are now parents who want to keep their children from hearing anything Obama has to say about the importance of education.
How sick... How hypocritical... How foolish.
Despite all of this hateful rhetoric, Obama remains popular... But what's next in their racist "tea-bag" of tricks? "Onward, Christian Bigots!"
GOP hatred for Obama has all become dangerously silly, and it is good to finally hear and see a major news outlet calling it by its right name...
It is flat out STUPID.

They Have Fallen and Refuse To Get Up

The August 2009 health care town hall meetings held by the Democratic Party have Republican knickers in a collective twist it seems. Republicans have uniformly lost their cool; have marshaled their dwindling base to oppose Obama on health care, regardless to majority public dissatisfaction with runaway health care costs. But these town hall meetings have done more to shed light on the differences between the two political parties than anything else this year, save the hearings for Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor...
It is apparent that the Republican Party's fall from grace last November was even more devastating than previously understood. They are now a "regional" party of extremists and Southerners... But they are very serious about getting power back at all cost.
In an effort to remain viable and keep hope alive for the 2010 mid-term elections, Republicans must stoke the anger of their Southern white base against a black President using the most inflammatory rhetoric allowed under the First Amendment.
With the backing of Newt Gingrich, even Sarah Palin accuses President Obama of seeking "Death Panel squads" in his health care bill. There is no truth to this absurd accusation, but unfortunately 58% of Republicans are "not sure Obama is a U.S. citizen" according to a recent poll conducted by the Daily Kos... Does this sound like a party of truth seekers?
The once powerful and proud party of Republicans has fallen and doesn't want to get up. They like wallowing in the murk and mire, because that is where they have been since their demoralizing 2008 defeat. And it is there where they will seek a re-birth, only to realize they have reached a dead end... They will need a better plan.
How the mighty have fallen... Or is it, "A proud heart goes before another fall in 2010?"

What Du Bois Said

While celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the NAACP, one cannot find it easy to declare the issues of race solved in America anytime soon. Sure, we have an African-American (black) President of the United States. We are about to get our first latina Supreme Court Justice... But what price must we pay for future advancements, and are we willing to pay it?
The underlying issues of race in 2009 America are still poorly cloaked in the cozy entrapment of media, and will not be recorded correctly by corporate historians. NAACP founder W.E.B. Du Bois raised this issue a century ago when he wrote, "One is astonished in the study of history at the recurrence of the idea that evil must be forgotten, distorted, skimmed over. We must not remember that Daniel Webster got drunk but only that he was a splendid constitutional lawyer. We must forget that George Washington was a slave owner . . . and simply remember the things we regard as creditable and inspiring. The difficulty, of course, with this philosophy is that history loses its value as an incentive and example; it paints perfect man and noble nations, but it does not tell the truth..."
True historians are those who know their own histories, and relate them to the events of their times. Those who do not rely on others to define their own works and witness will be those who clearly know their own truth, and value their own life experience. But these historians are not content to know just what they know.
Du Bois also wrote, "A little less complaint and whining, and a little more dogged work and manly striving, would do us more credit than a thousand civil rights bills..." Know your enemies well, but make sure you're not one of them I'd say...
The history of the NAACP has been accorded more truth than fame. It has fought the good fight, but has not finished its course. Unfortunately, its course will never be complete as we can clearly see the need for more intervention where issues of race and social equity are concerned. We have witnessed what happens when leadership is more interested in repeating empty words and phrases about "loving the troops" while they send those very soldiers to death based on distorted facts and opinions...
We need the NAACP to remind us of the truth when popular culture goads us to pursue fame, and convenience for the sake of institutional traditions that bear false witness about their concerns for our concerns... Du Bois also said, "The worker must work for the glory of his handiwork, not simply for pay; the thinker must think for truth, not for fame..." I say truth is wind to the chime. Ring chime... Ring!

America Finally Sees the Elephant

Senator Norm Coleman’s defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Supreme Court has handed the Democrats a filibuster proof United States Senate. This hopefully brings an end to Republican legislative policies that have severely hamstrung the nation’s business. Considering all that we have been through since Gore v. Bush, we can repeat the old saying of Civil War combat veterans, “I saw the elephant.”

We have experienced something so powerful and devastating to our lives over the last 8 years that it should have felt no-less like civil war. Our country has been torn apart by extreme right-wing agendas, and we may never be the same. It still frightens me to think that America wanted such a grotesque beast trampling over all its noble beliefs…

I saw the elephant… clearly.

The ascent of Al Franken to the United States Senate now becomes the Democrat’s double edged sword. It provides Democrats with an immense opportunity to pursue all of their ideals and dreams for the nation. Democrats can now ignore the GOP chorus of moral hypocrisies, as well as Republican cries on behalf of their corporate health insurance company sponsors, and do the full-time bidding of the American people.

Democrats are now free to tackle issues such as global warming and stem cell research without the unfounded denials and false alarms of Republican Senators James Inhofe and Pat Roberstson getting in the way. They can add oversight to American banking industries, and continue exposing politicians who enable the Ken Lays and the Angelo Mozilos and the Bernard Madoffs of Republican lore.

The consequences of greed, evidenced from the Reagan Revolution up until now, can only lead sensible Americans to say with certainty, “We unmistakably saw the elephant.”

Finally, Democrats can officially stop blaming Republicans for stonewalling everything, and push their agenda through both houses of Congress. Needless to say, this is what Americans voted for this past November. This is why there is a President Obama in the White House, and a filibuster proof Democratic Congress… With Coleman out and Franken in, we expect real changes in our government.

How appropriate it is for a Democratic comedian to become the 60th Senate Democrat, ending the Republican circus that presided over the worst economic crisis since World War II. How refreshing to know that our faith and trust was rewarded with new hope, and renewed power.

But… how disappointed I will be if I see a revived Republican elephant wreaking havoc on the nation, and the world as a result of Democratic majority stagnation...

Pushing The Reset Button Very Carefully

The Presidential Campaign of 2008 was based on a platform of political and social transformation. Each campaigner attempted to sequester the word “change” into their own exclusive sphere, but only one was successful in doing so... As welcomed as the political change has been, economic change has visited most Americans to some degree, bringing with it terms that show little regard for one’s financial portfolio or financial well being. Even if the “Bush” economy has not affected you personally, it certainly has touched someone very close to you in your neighborhood, work, church or family.

If you never had to personally, we all know someone who has “pushed the reset button,” and started the survival process over again… Just like the button we push when our computers lock up or “crash” without warning due to some malicious virus.

Our hard drives overload with programs, and responsibilities that cannot be sustained for lack of communal and fiscal space… Pressing the reset button is a vital first step towards recovery. A complete transformation follows the reset, and that necessitates patience on everyone’s part.

Regardless of how much you have or don’t have, what you lost or were able to save, change is heaped on us all. In the community of America, 10-15% unemployment affects every workplace... Laying off teachers affects every community… Losing health insurance directly affects all health standards… Closing Detroit auto factories devastates every neighborhood. We all share in this network of life, and are all affected by these disasters usually by no fault of our own.

Sometimes assets and interactions are lost for good after a crash. Pushing the reset button does not ensure retaining old and cherished files, or maintaining contacts once thought essential to your own existence. These realities sometimes become memories gone with the wind… But only the strong can push the reset button knowing things could change for better or worse, with emphasis on the later.

Former Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote: If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.” The power of “change” is determined by its convert, not by outsiders intent on observing another’s renovation. But we all share in the transformation... good or bad.

Everyone who has to reset must do so with valor and determination, setting aside those offering pity and guilt of failure…

Change is coming: “If you don’t create your own change, change will create you.”

When Push Comes to Yawn

The politics of political accountability met the politics of political desolation tonight on live television. President Obama laid out his plan for revitalizing the economy, while Louisiana’s Gov. Bobby Jindal added more water to the sinking boat called the Republican Party. Jindal giving a speech after Obama was like me running onto the Los Angeles Staples Center floor wearing a “Celtics” jersey after a big Lakers victory…

Don't Republicans love Bobby Jindal? Why subject him to such humiliation? This should cause Republicans to re-think their efforts at stonewalling Obama’s financial agenda. They should learn that going up against a man who brings accountability is not wise when all you can offer is “no,” and Jindal… Better yet, next time no Jindal. Please!

On second thought, send Jindal or even Palin back to deliver the Republican responses each time President Obama addresses a joint session of congress. That should ensure the complete desolation of their Rush Limbaugh engineered political party… Looking at the bright side, the American economy is sure to recover if there are no more congressional Republicans voting to please Limbaugh.

Anyone finding fault with President Obama’s address tonight can only be characterized as “bitter.” No wonder Republicans embraced “Joe the Plumber” so effortlessly… Now he’s a real bitter Republican!

I guess it only makes sense for a drowning Republican Party to leave an unobtrusive Bobby Jindal in Obama’s massive wake...

New Rules Same Objective

Inauguration Day has come and gone while the framework of America’s problems continues to rest with the old covenants of class warfare and greed. Since Obama is now the first “African-American” President of the United States, the discussion on race has changed from the inconvenient, “How badly has racism injured our nation’s economy?” to the more convenient, “Did you ever think you’d see this day?”

I always thought I’d see the day when there would be a Black President of the United States. I always believed that despite institutional efforts to thwart such an event, there were/are qualified Black men and women to lead this Nation, and would one day do just that… Intelligence and wisdom are both colorblind.

Barack Obama is a great man, but he is not the first person of color who was fit for the Presidency, as Jackie Robinson was not the first Black baseball player qualified to play in the “Major” Leagues. However, because of the state of race in America, these two individuals came upon the scene somewhat quickly and unexpectedly. So, yes… Jackie and Barack were the right “Black” people at the right time.

Both Obama and Robinson answered challenges that no African in America answered prior. Both challenges were directed at institutions that needed their leadership for economic survival.

Realizing the history of some Americans who would rather injure the country socially by denying people access to their neighborhoods, schools and businesses, it only seems logical that an American economy based on the dishonesty and exclusionary greed of Wall Street moguls who bamboozle their investors, would eventually be injured by its own self-indulgence.

Both models, Wall Street and Jim Crow, are based on the same principles of selfishness to the exclusions of those considered “outsiders.” Both models thrive in the inequality of their own false principles of “self-preservation” at the expense to the common good.

The major failing of America’s most enduring institution, Jim Crow, led to new rules that provided hope, and a re-birth of America’s promise to all of its citizens, beginning with the inclusion of Jackie Robinson into Major League Baseball. From there we experienced Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voters Rights Act of 1965 just to name a few… Many institutions in the South and isolated areas throughout the country thumbed their noses at these news rules for a time.

In his book, Race Matters, Dr. Cornel West wrote: “Our ideals of freedom, democracy, and equality must be invoked to invigorate all of us, especially the landless, propertyless, and luckless.” In other words, there is no way we move forward with Obama by giving billions of dollars to companies that will only spend it on their own self interests.

West continues:
“We must invigorate the common good with a mixture of government, business, and labor that does not follow any existing blueprint.”

These new rules will be implemented with the same stated objective in mind: “Liberty and justice for all.” If we are to survive this institutional challenge we must ensure that the new rule makers of the Obama administration always consider the least while negotiating with the powerful. We must make sure that all stakeholders are represented barring the creation of a third American institution that could bring this recalcitrant nation literally to its knees.

The Uphill Pull

It is almost here! Seventy-five percent of the American public and a larger majority of Earth’s inhabitants have been looking forward to this day… January 21, 2009, the day after Obama takes his oath of office, is what I’m talking about… Oh, yes... Let’s not forget January 20. That day is on my calendar as well… But January 21, 2009 is the big day! On that day we all begin the uphill wagon pull...

Since November it has been all about Obama who vanquished 8 years of Republican rule; thwarting any further G.O.P. attempts to injure the Nation with their thorny yet self-serving style of governance. The victory party started on November 4, 2008 and will end on the morning of January 21, 2009… when business commences in the Obama White House.

How quickly things will change on that morning. In a matter of a few short hours we will go from Presidential Inauguration party revelers fighting Capitol City traffic gridlocked, to a newly inaugurated President fighting 8 years of legislative gridlock and Republican stonewalling in the Capitol Building… We will go from singing Obama’s praises to holding his feet to the fire in the blink of an eye… and rightfully so. It is really all about “Americans” and not just Obama.

We know the narrative of an arrogant President who says, “Sit back and trust me!” while he tramples the rights of those he leads. We already know how it feels to have a President who says, “All is well!” when he really means “All be damned except those who agree with me.” So we’re not traveling up that damn road anymore… For Mr. Obama’s sake, we will end the party at one minute past midnight on January 21, 2009; unlike Mr. Bush whose inauguration party coasted downhill for 8 years to a crash landing…

Late January 20, we will return to the reality of our own lives as did Cinderella when her "Ball" ended abruptly. We will go to our own quarters to watch, work and wait for the legislative changes that need to be accomplished by this Congress and this new Administration beginning on the 21st... "We The People," not just a cabal of don't-know-it-all cronies, will negotiate new economic terms for a broken economy and weather the storms of a Nation in transformation.

For those Americans who succumbed to the enabling of George W. Bush, we will learn a new way of thinking beyond our own selfish concerns... For those Americans who have adopted a victim mentality and failed to do their best, we will learn to dig deeper from within and demand more of ourselves and stop blaming others… For those Americans who clearly see the road ahead, we will work diligently to keep ourselves informed and address our lives’ concerns accordingly and in order... All Americans now have new assignments that must be completed within the next four years.

January 21, 2009 is almost here… On that date you, me and Obama will all join in the uphill pull of the American wagon. It doesn't matter what party you support or what you look like. It will not be an easy pull, but a necessary one.

All hands on deck!

If the Shoes Fit Bush, He Should Wear Them

Average Americans, including this writer, have been conspicuously silent on political issues since the ascendancy of President-elect Obama… But we were forcibly shaken out of our Obama euphoria this past Sunday thanks to a pair of imprudent Baghdad loafers hurled at soon-to-be ex-President George W. Bush.

Iraqi journalist Muntather Zaidi delivered 2 shocking statements to President Bush, and all other Americans in the form of shoes. The first statement delivered by Zaidi said Bush broke Iraq with his misguided war causing much death and destruction; the second statement was directed at all Americans prompting us to heed our views of other cultures. We should value and respect the world hereafter by not electing Presidents like George W. Bush ever again.

Because Bush is our President, we abhor the sight of some foreign correspondent throwing shoes at him. We come to his assistance and offer him protection out of respect for the Office of the President of the United States. But as we do when we offer our own children protection and representation even though they have done wrong, we say to our President, ‘You have done wrong and you need to apologize!’

Mr. Bush has clearly been mistaken. His foreign policies have caused the United States of America to lose face in the eyes of the world. His presidency has destabilized an already fragile world, and has caused the country itself to slide into disrepair. This has all been punctuated by 2 shoes thrown at Bush’s head by an Iraqi citizen filled with disdain that most Americans have felt over the last 8 years...

This does not endorse Mr. Zaidi’s actions, but underscores them.

The problem for the rest of America is the Bush Presidency has given rise to many Iraqis who now feel justified in evening the score. Instead of throwing “flowers and candy and being greeted as liberators,” according to Dick Cheney after he and Bush invaded Iraq, an Iraqi is brazenly throwing both shoes at our President's head; a symbol of ultimate disrespect among the Iraqi people.

I doubt that Bush is willing to take any responsibility for this unfortunate incident. Already he is making jokes about it, but if he understood the Iraqi culture he would become more introspective about it… Actually, if he understood the Iraqi culture he never would have invaded their country from the beginning.

All we can hope for at this point is… if the shoes actually fit President Bush, he will wear them for a long, long time. He will one day come to a full understanding why he received them in the first place, and maybe that understanding will prove sobering for him.

According to Native American proverb: "Never judge a man harshly until you walk a mile in his moccasins..." Especially if he's willing to throw them at you.

The Rise of American Soul

The election of Barack Obama ushers in a brand new meaning of the term, "American Soul." Voters examined themselves and their true values as American citizens on November 4, 2008 and collectively decided that "soulfulness" was a far better way than fearfulness. Americans were willing to hire a new leader with more promise than years of service, but one who had the credentials and temperment to garner public respect and trust...

His journey to the White House is chronicled in this video.

"Obama Effect" Delivers Presidential Victory to Democrat Barack Obama

Barack Hussein Obama has defeated John Sidney McCain, III to become the 44th President of the United States… Oh yes he did! America has changed overnight, and forever… Oh yes it has!

Our nation has embarked on a bona fide journey that has moved away from pipe dreams and wishful thinking. From dreams that were once about “40 acres and a mule…” Dreams that once whispered the words, “Separate but Equal..." Suddenly, America has opened her doors wider enabling all of her citizens access to her most prized institutions. Tonight, Obama’s dream became total reality. Tonight, we better defined the terms
“indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

The old “Bradley Effect" has been replaced by the new “Obama Effect.” Long live the “Obama Effect!”

America now writes a new narrative sequencing its beginnings from bitter cultural and racial divisions, to a more inclusive and truly American society. This is only the beginning, folks… but it has finally begun.

What remains clear is there are still pockets of American society that prefer not to change with the times. This Presidential campaign exposed millions willing to hold on to old hatreds regardless to how unfounded those beliefs may be. The Obama presidential victory is no doubt frightening to individuals who prefer fear over change.

Nevertheless, Obama has opened the door for more Americans who share his determination. He has single-handedly put success in reach of many Black, Asian and Latino Americans just by his own example. He has caused a spark in the hearts of many, and has forced millions worldwide to take notice of his strength of character.

No doubt an Obama Presidency inspires all of us, regardless of color and creed, to reach deeper into our own imaginations and to seek goals that would have been too lofty for our ancestors to seek or grasp… But seek and grasp we must for the sake of the nation... A frightening thought for anyone who is not for change…

Congratulations President-elect Barack Obama. You ran a valiant campaign and achieved the mandate you sought after.

More Than An Obama Presidency At Stake

For all intent and purposes this election has become a forum on Barack Obama and John McCain. We have discussed their qualifications ad nauseam, and now it is time to make the choice… But there is more at stake than who wins the Presidency.

Considering that all politics are local, there are many local government and state propositions that could drive future congressional and judicial agendas. With that being said, also consider the Supreme Court that Bush will leave behind to oversee many of these issues. It is very important that voters have just as much knowledge about these local issues as they have on their choice between Obama and McCain.

Another consideration in voting for or against the local-state propositions is who does or does not supports them, and why they give or withold their support? Many of these propositions, like Propositions 5, the Nonviolent Offender Rehabilitation Act (or NORA), in California are funded by groups who benefit financially or politically from their passing or defeat without regard for the public good.

California’s prisons are overcrowded with a mixture of high and low security prisoners. Most of these inmates deserve their sentences, but thousands are incarcerated for minor drug violations or for drug usage that require treatment more than long prison sentences. The cost to California tax payers to run an overcrowded prison system is over $10 billion a year; about 10% of the State budget. This price tag is about the same as what the State of California spends on higher education.
Think about it… California spends just as much to keep people in jail as they do to graduate students from college!

It is clear that the nation’s criminal justice system needs a revamping because our prisons nationwide are overcrowded. But one group who lobbies against Proposition 5, and supports the prison status-quo is the powerful California Correctional Peace Officer’s Association, who directly benefits from all of the overtime needed to guard all of these inmates. They have contributed $1.8 million to defeat Proposition 5.

There are many other local issues that need local scrutiny. More ballot issue research might be required to get a better understanding of the local issues, but as the saying goes:

“An ounce of knowledge is easily outweighed by a ton of ignorance.”
